Knockmore rail line

David Ford believes the people of Crumlin and Glenavy deserve more than the current inadequate public transport system and a rail link would be central to improving services.

He has worked hard to campaign for a rail service to return to the area and feels that the Department should invest in the infrastructure now and prepare to reap the rewards of private investment in Northern Ireland, especially as we move towards to devolution of corporation tax.

DRD are currently considering two long term solutions to solving the overcongestion on the Antrim and Belfast Northern Line.

1. Dualling the single line track between Bleach Green and Antrim.

2. Re-opening Knockmore rail line, creating a spur to Belfast International Airport.

The Minister for Regional Development feels option 2 will not be economically viable until the airport's annual passenger numbers rise to 10 million, which is not expected to happen until 2030.

We feel we must make this investment now so as to reap the rewards as Northern Ireland continues to enjoy more inward investment from across the globe.

Please sign this petitition to call on DRD to re-establish a rail link in Crumlin and Glenavy.
